Taking Time to Unplug
In February, I travelled to Mt. Princeton Hot Springs in Colorado with my family to celebrate my birthday. As we walked in, we were greeted with roses and champagne flutes. While I wish it was because of my birthday, I forgot that I booked my stay on Valentines day haha.
We stayed in one of their cabins and hopped around their hot springs pools and creek pods. Relaxing in the hot water, unplugged from the outside world, and sipping on a fresh blended smoothie was the most refreshed I felt in awhile. All my worries were washed away and I was able to enjoy quality time with my family.
Later that night we went to Simple Eatery, a restaurant that the front desk receptionist recommended and I was a bit hesitant when he said that it was inside an outdoor gear apparel shop. Though, I was pleasantly surprised and it was one of the best meals I’ve had in Colorado! Everything is made fresh everyday with local ingredients and I would highly recommend going if you ever go to Mt. Princeton Hot Springs or are in the Buena Vista area! (Don’t be fooled by the clothing shop!)
This trip really reminded me the value of taking time to unplug. I loved that I was disconnected from the world and had no service. I couldn’t check work emails, I didn’t scroll through social media, and I didn’t feel the pressure to document every moment on my story. I was able to admire the nature around me and have quality conversations. For a moment, time slowed and a huge weight was off my shoulder. I felt so peaceful and genuinely happy.
In this always connected society, it’s easy to forget to take time for ourselves. That doesn’t just mean a weekend with no plans, but also, taking time to step away from technology and do something that “sparks joy”; whether that’s spending time with people we love, doing our favorite hobby, or exploring this beautiful world. This helps ground us and remind us to take time to unplug, reset our priorities, and live in the moment.
